Raise Your Hands for Education - March 2008 The Grosse Ile Educational Foundation turned up the heat in February with a tropical themed event, "Raise Your Hands for Education" presented by Tom and Holly Gores and the Murdock family. The Millennium Steel Band entertained guests with their lively music that changed the environs to a warm island in the Caribbean. Live and silent auctions and a special diamond ring raffle highlighted the evening. The ring, donated by ACE Jeweler's, went home with lucky winner - Nicole Karmazin. Margie Gape coordinated the raffle, offering minature hands with 'gems' as raffle tickets. Event coordinator, Victoria Murphy, came up with the idea for the party. She worked with Kroger to arrange for each table to be decorated with live orchids and other exotic tropical flowers. Live auctioneer Charlie Butler revved up the crowd and had many guests bidding for special items such as a trip to New York City, a beautiful custom made wood table and a boat trip.
